Welcome, welcome fellow star gazers. This is the ¨Of fire and ice¨ blog, a blog that will try to focus on fun and flashy science experiments that I have done. I will most likely be using Youtube or Google Video for most of the experiments. Besides that I will be posting about some articles that I think have valuable, and/or interesting information. Also I will shamelessly be plugging www.assertfalse.com. I may post small snip its of other cool stuff that I happen to be doing at any given moment.
At this point I have one science type video up on Youtube and I intend on getting some more posted very soon. The video (link below) is me in my dorm room playing around with some super cooled water that I set up in my min-fridge.

The web host of assert(false), and my brother, has also posted an interesting video of his new kick ass CSG, constructive solid geometry, project. I´ll admit that the video quality is a little on the crappy side but the content is still really neat. To learn more about it check out www.assertfalse.com.
Lastly I have messing around with some bible code stuff. The bible code for those of you whom are interested is crap. However, it seems to be compelling enough that some people put a lot of belief in its ¨predictions¨. The claim is that the messages that appear in the bible, when it is run through some sort of matrix, could not have happened by chance and there for must have been placed there by god. The bible code has been embraced by popular media and many fundamentalist groups. In fact I saw a special on the History Channel about the bible code, and it seemed to brush aside all opposing evidence as that of some crazy skeptic loon.
First of all I´d like to say that the mathematical analysis of the supporters of the code is incorrect. What they claim is almost infinitely improbable is in fact almost a certainty. One of the most important things that the supporters seem to over look is that words aren´t random. They have letters that occur with a predictable regularity. I recently had a little fun with this my self. It turns out that the letters a and s are very common in the English language, so I decide to find as many instances of the word ass as I could. I found a lot of them. To further debunk this I intend to find messages that directly contradict what is commonly held to be the messages of the bible.
I would like to announce that I plan on making this a weekly blog but for now this seems unlikely. Mainly because it is nearing exam week for me and I need to spend a lot of time working of school and the like.
Finally one last plug for some great cites out there.
